The Sierra Club will be sponsoring a boating event for the
public. The intent is to provide the public with a memorable,
fun boating experience that will allow them to experience the
North Richmond Shoreline wetlands in a new way and gain a new
appreciation for their wetlands.
The Sierra Club will hire
California Canoe and Kayak (CCK) to provide boats, life vests
and other necessary equipment and a qualified leader to sheppard
the public in short boating excursions. CCK will provide boats
for upto eight public participants and their instructor. Additionally,
the Sierra Club will provide 1-5 volunteers in their own boats
and equipment to share the message about the wetlands and the
importance of their preservation.
The public will be scheduled
in 30 minute increments, eight at a time with an estimated
15-20 minutes of actual boating time. Boats will be kept close
to the wetlands with perhaps a trip out to experience the eelgrass
meadow depending on boater capabilities and marine conditions.
CCK’s instructor will be responsible for determine the
marine conditions and making the determination of whether or
not it is safe for inexperienced boaters. The launch for the
boating event will be the beach below the picnic areas and
adjacent to the Bruener Marsh. Minors will be welcomed to participate
so long as they are 100 pounds and accompanied by a responsible
adult.
Two
horse groups will be participating. They will stage their trailers
down at the baseball fields, and ride them in. The horses will
be staged along a rope line to be placed along the row of eucalyptus
trees downhill to the left just after the bridge. The Mexican
Performing horses will utilize the open field across the road.
This has been mown. The Horses of the Black Cowboy Association
will circulate around the Festival on a periodic basis, making
sure to stay off of the irrigated lawns. Approx 4-5 hours.
The two groups will be staging an event every 30 minutes.
The local dancing horses are a group with the Heritage Riders
Horseman Association. Mr. Silvester Wiggins is the President.
The Black Cowboy Association well be present on horseback.
Mr Albert Randy Harris will represent the group as spokesperson.
This is a children’s ride consisting of a lawn tractor
and four small cars with the appearance of a RR train. This
ride will operate only on the paved road as indicated on the
maps. Insurance information has already been provided to the
EBRPD. Mr. Ramirez will deliver his equipment in the morning
of the event. All day
The fishing derby will be conducted out at the fishing pier.
All participants will supply their own material and equipment
and materials. Prizes will be given.
Fishing Derby Rules
- There are four age groupings
- Ages 1-6
- Ages 7-12
- Ages 13-17
- Ages 18 and over
- All fishers have to bring their own rods,
bait and tackle.
- All children under age 13 must be supervised
by a responsible adult.
- Fish will be judged based on the greatest
weight.
- Prizes will be given in each age category.
- Winners will be determined by the Fishing
Derby Coordinator based on weight.
- Winners must be present to win.
